Michael Clark Merritt was born February 27, 1948 to Mary “Kathryne” (Ashley) and Edward J. Merritt in Ardmore, OK. He passed from this life on February 21, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of 72.

Mike was a lifelong resident of the Ardmore area and graduated from Plainview High School in the Class of 1966. Upon graduation he went on to Business College and later opened his own contracting business in Kingfisher, OK. On December 4, 1971 Mike married Brenda Duvall in Russellville, AR. From this union they had 4 children, Corey, Magan, Clay, and Clint. Mike later pursued a special education degree from East Central University. After a few years of teaching, Mike chose to focus on his contracting and rental business.

Mike was a caring, compassionate and loving brother, father, grandfather and soon to be great grandfather. He loved raising chickens, gardening, fishing, reading Mother Earth News and playing and singing songs to his children and grandchildren on his guitar. You could always find Mike working on a crossword puzzle. He loved making people smile and laugh. He was a man that did not place a large emphasis on materialistic possessions, but always made sure he provided for his family and put himself last.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Kathryne Merritt; and brother Marty Merritt.

He is survived by his ex-wife Brenda Merritt of Norman; children Corey Merritt and his wife Rebecca of Tuttle, Magan Merritt and her wife Tammie of San Antonio, TX, Dr. Clay Merritt and his wife Haley of Houston, TX, and Dr. Clint Merritt and his wife Paige of Washington D.C.; brothers Mark Merritt and his wife Diane and Eddie Merritt and his wife Patricia both of Ardmore; sister Kathy Petterson of Security, CO; grandchildren Mackenzie, Caleb, Evelyn, and Colton Merritt; and great granddaughter to be Aubrey Kate Cryer.

Funeral services are scheduled at the Craddock Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Newport Cemetery.
