She was born on July 4, 1958, the daughter of Howard Johnson Sr. and Sylvia Brown Johnson. Shirley was raised in Centreville, MD, and grew up playing softball and volleyball in her younger years. She graduated from Queen Anne's County High School in 1976 and went on to work for the Tidewater Trader.
Shortly after graduating, Shirley got moved from Centreville to Delaware, where she later married and had her four beloved children. She then relocated back to Maryland, settling down in Chestertown, where her children were raised.
It was in Chestertown that she met her husband, James Henry III, in 1996 and they married on December 18, 1999. They were married for 22 years before her passing.
Shirley was known as the life of the party and the "family clown". Her fun-loving personality came out at family events, whether she was playing cards or cutting up on the dance floor. She loved cooking (and was good at it too), dancing, music, and shopping for clothes. Shirley was happy when her family was happy. She will be remembered as a supportive and loving mother and grandmother. Her children describe her as the type of woman who would give you the clothes off her back and would feed the world if she could.
She was predeceased by her parents, Howard Johnson Sr. and Sylvia Brown, and one brother, Mark Jackson Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, James Henry III; her children, Franklin Corsey Jr. (Amanda), Lashawnda Piper (Kenneth), Derrick Corsey Sr., Latia Corsey (Donté Sr.), Nakisha Henry, James L. Henry, and Delvon S. Henry; her siblings, Howard Johnson Jr. (Fatima), Sheila Elias, Harold Johnson Sr.(Kathy), Harrison Johnson (Gloria), Edris Ross (Leonard), Marvin Johnson (Helen), Rudolph Johnson (Fern), Anthony Johnson, Tyrone Johnson, Lyndon Johnson, Beverly Johnson, Regina Dunnigan (Donald) and Mark Hendrix; her grandchildren; Franklin III, Fancy, Christian, Leya, Savannah, Jordyn, Jayden, Derrick Jr., Jai, TyAishan, LaShaun, Damiya, and Donté Jr.; and her godson, Lonnie Elias Jr.
Services will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown on Saturday, February 27 at 12:00 pm, with a visitation hour beforehand. Interment will follow at Jane's Cemetery.
