Rosa Maria Francesca Oncidi Smith, 96, originally of Mahanoy City, Pa., passed away on February 19, 2021. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jospeh J. Smith; brothers, William, Ferdinand, Alfred, Albert, Henry, Paul, Joseph, and Oscar; and her sisters, Elisabetta and Augustine. As the last of 11 children, she is survived by her loving daughter, Dana Jackmowski (James), as well as many special nieces and nephews. Rosa was a devoted Catholic, longtime choir member, and substitute teacher. She was very proud of her job as a grenade pin setter during World War Two, as all of her brothers served in the armed forces. Rosa was a friend to many in St. Michael’s, Md., her home of over 68 years. The last 13 years have been spent in Richmond and Henrico, Va., to be close to her daughter. She was the finest example of a generous loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She would have wanted for her family and friends to stay strong in their faith and continue in love and generosity as she herself had done for 96 years. Services will be private.
