Mr. Chester Lawrence Smith, 96, of Troy went home to be with the Lord 6:20 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2021, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021, in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Pastor Robin Rotgers will officiate. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery near Troy.

Pallbearers will be Drake Hogg, Matthew Roberson, Gary Sweatt, Nathan Sweatt, Brad Baggett, Billy Roberson and Rob Kleber.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday.

Mr. Smith was born October 27, 1924, in Thomaston, Georgia, son of the late Benjamin Hill and Mattie Belle (Dickens) Smith. He married Margie (Moore) Smith June 1, 1947. She preceded him in death October 27, 2020. Chester had served in the United States Army during World War II. He was very patriotic and was proud of his service to his country. Chester had been the owner and operator of the former Smith's Food Town on the square in Troy from 1967 to 1978, was a salesman for Flavor Kist Crackers and had been employed by E.W. James & Sons Supermarket from 1978 until the early 2000's. He was a member of Jones Walker Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City and Modern Woodmen of America. Chester was a member of Greater Vision Church in Troy and never wavered in his faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary "Mae" Snyder, Catherine Roberson (Guy) and Patricia Hogg (Butch) all of Troy; one sister, Jeanette Bedford of Deland, Florida; nine grandchildren, Michelle Hogg (Brad Baggett) and Matthew Roberson all of Troy, Brittney Morris (Cody) of Dyersburg, Kayla Bishop (Justin George) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Laina Herod (Matthew) of White House, Hope Sweatt (Gary) of Martin, Rob Kleber (Vanessa) Momence, Illinois, Sandra Smith of Rives and Stacey Alexander (Jason) of Benton, Kentucky; twenty great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death his son, Mike Smith; his son-in-law, Thurman Snyder; four sisters, Bernice O'Neal, Effie Barnett, Lynda Dickerson and Lucille Kinsler; and three brothers, Rufus Smith, Hubert Smith and Mitchel Smith.
