Arthur J White, 87, of Charles City passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021.

Art was born on February 28, 1933 in rural Nashua, IA to Matthew and Eva White. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary, on July 27, 1952 at First Baptist Church in Charles City. They were blessed with two children, Dennis and Cindy.
He graduated from Charles City High School in 1952. He was drafted into the Army in 1953, during the Korean conflict. After completing basic training, he was assigned to Korea in the 34th Infantry Regiment, where he was located above the 38th Parallel. During his time in Korea, he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and was appointed to Company Clerk.
His hard work and dedication had shown through in his career at Walsh Manufacturing, which he started at the age of 16. He eventually retired in 1995 as Co-owner of the company. In 1998, he was presented with Charles City's "Man of the Year" award with his warm and personable character, for the endless hours of volunteer work.
Art was a kind and honorable man who spent his retirement serving our community in many patriotic ways. He presented flags at Military funerals and put out the street flags during Holidays. For many years he oversaw Memorial Day and Veteran's Day services and programs. In 2007, Art, his brothers, and many area Veterans began acting on their dreams for a dedication memorial for Veterans. On May 8, 2008, the dedication ceremony for the memorial took place on the steps of the Floyd County Courthouse. Art was proudly the inauguration's master of ceremonies.
In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and company at their trailer in Lake City, Minnesota. For many years, family suppers were held at their home on Sundays. He enjoyed the time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary; son, Denny; daughter, Cindy (Craig) Haberkorn; grandchildren: Angie (Dylan, Kylie) Parsons, Travis (Shelby, Trevor) Haberkorn, and Dustin (Kayla, Dalton, Carter, Oliver, Aiden) Haberkorn all of Charles City; sisters: Cleo (Fran) Weisenstein of Indiana and Laurel (Ron) Heller of New Hampton; and brother, Bruce (Carmen) White of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Eva White; brothers: Gilman White and Stanley White; sister, Juanita Mehmen; and grandson-in-law, Mark Parsons.
