Asheville-Sara Louise Smith, 80, went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2021 at Mission Hospital. Born on October, 9th, 1940, in Bangor Maine, the youngest of four children, to the late Mahlon T. Dunbar and Eunice O’Clair.

Sara enjoyed traveling all over the world with her late husband Howard, reading books, and contributing to community charity work. She worked as a dedicated Registered Nurse in Western Massachusetts at several medical facilities and hospitals, retiring as Director of Nursing. After retirement she moved to Englewood FL, with her late husband Howard, where they made their home for 20 years. In 2018 Sara relocated to Asheville, NC, where she was an active member of Skyland Methodist Church in Arden, NC.

In addition to her parents, Sara is preceded in death by her first husband Ronald C. Decker and second husband Howard W. Smith; Sister Ruth Pistel.

Left to cherish her memory is her Daughters Jennifer Schneider of Fairview (NC), Lucy Evoy (FL); Sons Christopher Moody (Karen) of New York (NY), Larry Smith (FL); Sister Elizabeth Dunbar of South Hamilton (MA); Brother Seth Dunbar (Bonnie) of Taftville (CT); Grandchildren Richard Keefe II (Misty) E. Sara was a very selfless person, always taking care of others, had a big love of life and animals, and enjoyed tutoring children at Skyland Methodist Church. She will be missed greatly by all of her many worldwide friends and family.

Special thanks to Skyland Methodist Church, Senior Pastor Dan Hester and Associate Pastor Joy Moss for their continued support.

A celebration of Sara’s life will be held at a later date.
