George Whitehorn Jones beloved husband of Ila Mae Munroe and the late Eliza Dower by a former marriage and dear father of Vivian (Mrs Ivan Hamilton) Carleton Place; Gladys (Mrs Edgar Wilson) Ottawa; Phyllis (Mrs Clement Boal) Lively; and Kennerly, Detroit and Viola predeceased and dear brother of Mrs Arthur Lenton, Ottawa and William Jones of Portsmouth, England. In his 74th year. Resting at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte thence to St John's Presbyterian Church for service on Friday at 2.30 p.m. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Final Tribute To Geo W. Jones Local Musician
His many friends and associates in the Almonte district were sadden by the death, in his 74th year of Mr George Jones on April 25th, 1962 at the Almonte General Hospital. His was a full and interesting life, devoted to the many aspects of music, best known of which was his work as teacher, organist and choirmaster. His church work in Almonte spanned 32 years and included the choir directorship of several denominations. At the time of his death he was organist and choirmaster at St John's Presbyterian Church, Almonte. Mr Jones was born in England and showed musical ability at a very early age. He commenced violin studies at the age of seven and this instrument remained his first love throughout his life. His childhood years were spent in Portsmouth, where at the tender age of fifteen, he conducted a fife and drum band which won first prize in the Portsmouth and District Music Festival. His prowess as a teacher was apparent, even as a young man, in the successes of his pupils in festival competition. It is important, at this point, to stress the fact that the music festivals held throughout the British Isles are, and always have been of the highest standard and competitors expect and receive, not praise and laurels, but constructive criticism. Mr Jones' music festival activities were climaxed by his appearance at the famous Crystal Palace in London, on the occasion of a Command Performance by massed festival choirs, all winners of the coveted gold medal in their respective local competitions. This Royal Concert was the event of the year in London's musical circles and must have been one of the proudest moments of his life. At the age of twenty-one and after gaining his associate diploma (Royal College of Music) Mr Jones came to Canada and embarked on a successful musical career in the Ottawa area. He married the Eliza Dower of Metcalfe who bore him one son and four daughters. They are, Vivian (Mrs Ivan Hamilton) of Carleton Place; Gladys (Mrs Edgar Wilson) of Ottawa; Phyllis (Mrs Clement Boal) of Sudbury; Kennerly of Detroit, Mich and Viola, predeceased. His second wife, the former Ila Mae Munroe continues to reside in Almonte and is well known and loved in this district. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home to St John's Presbyterian Church and was conducted by the Rev Leslie Elder. A large congregation was present to pay its last respected to a well-loved and greatly respected figure. Active pallbearers were, Mr Wilbert Fulton Mr Lloyd Watson and Mr Harold Blanchard, (representing the Session of St John's Presbyterian Church), Mr Howard Sadler, Mr Thomas Voyce and Mr Raymon Munroe (personal friends of the deceased). Six members of St John's Choir acted as honourary pallbearers. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.
