Obituary for Mildred Webb Burnette
Mildred Webb Burnette, 93, of Greenbrier, passed from this life into the presence of her Lord on Saturday February 13, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Greenbrier. A private family graveside service will be conducted Tuesday February 23rd in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jon Briggs officiating.
Mildred Webb Burnette was born in Algood, TN on September 17, 1927 to Morris Brewer Webb and Ethel Lee Rittenberry Webb. She and her family moved to West Nashville in 1934. She loved to reminisce about her time spent roller skating around the city and at the Hippodrome Roller Rink, playing in Centennial Park, helping in her mother’s downtown diner, “The Little Hut,” and working for Kress Five & Dime on 5th Avenue North in Nashville. She attended Tarbox School and was a graduate of Cohn High School. She took courses in Advanced Problems in databased programming at Volunteer State with her son in her later years. She married William Joseph “Bunny” Burnette June 26, 1948. They had three children and shared a wonderful life together on their farm in Greenbrier until he passed away in 1991.
Mildred happily served her church, Calvary Assembly of God formerly Donelson Assembly of God for almost 50 years as secretary and treasurer. She was inspired by Shirley Temple and loved to tap dance! Up into her early nineties, she was known to do a little tap dance at the drop of a hat.
Known affectionately by many as “Nanny Girl”, Mildred had quite a fan club on Facebook in her last 3 years. She was loved by more people than she knew and was the light of her family.
She is survived by a son, William Joseph (Joe) Burnette, Jr. and wife, Lynn (Greenbrier, TN), two daughters, Teresa Ann Melin and husband, Robert (Madison, TN), and Susan Renee Green and husband, Ricky (Greenbrier, TN), Four grandchildren, William Joseph (Trey) Burnette III and wife, Amy, Tyler Burnette and wife, Stefanie, Shelby Andal and husband, Tyler and Michael Green, and wife, Erin, six great-grandchildren, Drew Burnette, Erin Burnette, Connor Andal, Claire Andal, Fallon Green, and Lizzie Burnette. She is survived by two brothers, J. Wallace Webb (Cookeville, TN), and Morris Webb Jr. (Ridgetop, TN). She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Green Webb, Jane Wilson Burnette, and Madean Wilson Burnette, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Lee Rittenberry Webb Lewis, her father Morris Brewer Webb, and her husband, William Joseph “Bunny” Burnette, Sr.
