Mayme Julia Ronkainen, 93, died Sunday, August 24, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born May 5, 1910, in Kettle River to Erick and Kaisa Maki. Mayme grew up in the Kettle River area, working in the Creamery. She was united in marriage to Arnie Ronkainen on July 27, 1929, in New York Mills. She then worked as a cook in the Lumber Camps throughout the Deer River-Max areas. In the 1940's, Mayme and Arnie returned to the Kettle River area and in 1950, they moved to their farm in Silver Township. She then became a postal clerk and later postmaster of the Kettle River Post Office. Mayme was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Kettle River and was also involved in Sunday School and Ladies Aid as well as Treasurer of the church. Mayme is preceded in death by her husband Arnie; infant son, Carl; three brothers; and three sisters. Mayme is survived by one son, Gerald (Laverne) Ronkainen of Duluth; two daughters, Lois (Frank) Romanoski of Moose Lake and Karen (Marlin) Lund of Cloquet, foster son, John (Loretta) Raiha of Cloquet; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and Wednesday, August 27, from 2 until the 3 p.m. services in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kettle River, with Reverend Paul Reiff officiating. Interment will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Silver Township. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
