It is with great sorrow that the following obituary will be in the New Orleans, LA, area Times Picayune, the Easton, MD, area Star Democrat, and the Frederick, MD, area News-Post. I hope everyone can stop by during her Celebration of Life this Saturday as she had a lot of life and love to celebrate.
On Sunday, 20 December 2020, Iris Evans Johnson, loving wife and mother of two sons, passed away at the age of 70. Iris was born on 21 August 1950 in Easton, MD, to Harry and Susie Evans. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Hood College in Frederick, MD, in 1972. Using that degree, Iris taught many pupils across Frederick County, MD, Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany Parishes, LA. On 24 September 1977, she married Alfred Johnson with whom she raised two sons, David and Andrew. Iris had a passion for educating and inspiring her young students. She went to great lengths to engage students and reach each one with a personally tailored approach. Her love for flowers inspired her to create beautiful gardens. Every house she moved into soon became surrounded with unique and wonderful gardens with plants from every corner of the plant world. She was also a very gifted singer and lent her voice to the St Margaret Mary's Church Choir on many Sunday evenings. She is well known across South East Louisiana for her kind and compassionate spirit and her love for everyone. Iris was preceded in death by her father Harry and her mother Susie and youngest sister Lisa. She is survived by her husband Alfred, her two sons David and Andrew, her grand daughter Felicia, and grandson Mason, her brother Harry, and sisters Lois, Suzanne, Jean, and Marty, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Iris on 16 January 2021 at the restored Northshore Beach Firehouse, 267 Debbie Drive, Slidell, LA, 70458 from 12 pm to 3 pm.
