James B. Tompkins, 93, of Carmel, New York died on February 2, 2022 at The Paramount at Somers. He was the son of Hart George Tompkins and Jessie Mae (Odell) Tompkins. Born on October 15, 1928, in Brewster. Mr. Tompkins was predeceased by ten brothers and sisters, his only surviving sibling being his sister, June, of Carmel, with whom he resided. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tompkins, who graduated from Purdys High School in Purdys, New York, was a former healthcare provider, real estate salesman and hairdresser. He was a longtime member of the Croton Falls Presbyterian Church, in Croton Falls, New York, where his sister presently serves as pastor. His whole life was on devoted to looking after others, putting himself last and them first. He was truly an inspiration to many who held him in high regard.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.
A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 2:00 P.M. and will be conducted by the Reverend George Cook. His sister, June, will give his eulogy.
James will be brought to his final resting place following the service at Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel.
After the service, friends of Mr. Tompkins are invited to gather at George's Place in Carmel for fellowship and to share their memories of Mr. Tompkins, affectionately called Jimmy by all who knew him.
