J. CARSEY MANNING was born on November 8, 1925 and passed away on January 24, 2003. He was born in Greenville, Texas to Joe and Faye Manning. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Tengg Manning, his brother Joe Manning and his wife Norma, his sister Cynthia Joost and her husband Emil; brothers-in-law Nicholas Tengg and his wife Debbe, Thomas Tengg and his wife Sue; daughters Cathryne Stone, Nicki Conner and her husband Steve; his sons David Manning, Jay Manning and his wife Maureen, Miles Manning and his wife Julie; and his grandchildren: Mark Stone, Cathryne Conner, Tish Manning, Olivia Conner, Meredith Manning, J. Carsey Manning II, Nicholas Manning, Kathleen Manning, Miles Manning, Jr., Laura Manning, and Allie Manning; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Manning was a long time resident of both Dallas and Houston. He attended Rice Institute and enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He was then employed with Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc. and spent his entire career there retiring in 1992 as Senior Vice-President. After retirement, Mr. Manning continued to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of Stewart & Stevenson until 2001. During his many years with Stewart & Stevenson he traveled all over the world where he made many friends. Mr. Manning was a member of The Houston Engineering Society, The Petroleum Club of Houston, the Executive Breakfast Club at River Oaks Country Club, Galveston Yacht Club, and the Elk Creek Ranch in Colorado. The family wishes to thank Annie Berry and Bobby Williams for their devotion and care during Mr. Manning's illness. Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Houston, 5300 Main St., Monday, January 27, 2003 at 2:00PM in the sanctuary. The family request donations are made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or the charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.
