Leslie Lorraine Shico Murphy, 102, of Lake Worth and Sherman, Texas, has gone home to be with her beloved husband, Travis O. Murphy who preceded her in death on August 19, 1964, after 22 years of marriage. Lorraine will be interred with her husband at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.

Lorraine was born in McAlester, Oklahoma to Elonzo and Annie Amanda Shico on January 27, 1919. She was the first of two daughters and was raised in Lockney, Texas. The family moved to Lubbock and she graduated from Lubbock High School in 1934. She lived through many historic periods including the Great Depression, World War II, and other world changing events. She met her soul mate, Travis, in 1940 on a blind date to see the film, “Gone with the Wind”. They were married on May 17, 1942, by a Justice of the Peace in a small town outside of Lubbock.

They had three children, Paula Anne, Mark, and Travis. Because her husband was in the Army Air Force and scheduled to go overseas, Lorraine and infant, Paula Anne, moved to San Diego, California. After his discharge Travis followed them to San Diego. Travis passed away in 1964 from a long terminal illness. Having her young son, Travis, to raise she made a living by working party plans so she could be home when he got home from school. In 1992 they moved to Texas and stayed with her sister, Paula, until they found an apartment. They bought a home in McKinney in 1998 and in 2015 they moved to Lake Worth, Texas.

She was a Chickasaw and proud to be a Native American. She started having physical ailments at 95 in 2014. She slipped away peacefully in her sleep on February 12, 2021. She is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be planned for late March or early April.
