Monday 22 March 1886: ELIZABETH ANN JACKSON age 10 years was putting some small coal on the fire at home at 76 St Helen's Road, Abergavenny, "when her pinafore caught fire. She made vain endeavours to put the fire out, then ran out into the garden, and finally into the street, where her cries attracted a passing rag and bone gatherer, who with his bag, stifled the flames. She was burned very badly about her body, and died from the injuries last Monday."
