David Lee Burnett of Battle Creek, MI, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at his residence in Battle Creek. He was born January 18, 1939 in Battle Creek the son of Richard A Burnett and Francis Jane (Hollman).
David was in the Marine Corps Reserve. He retired in May of 2004 after 47 years at the Battle Creek Enquirer. He was active in many clubs including: the Shriners, the Battle Creek Balsa Bee's, the RC Aircraft Club, the Masons, and the Scottish Rite. He loved building RC planes and model trains. His love for planes and trains did not end with models it continued on to the real thing; he could sit and watch them for hours. David was also a season ticket holder to the Detroit Tiger spring training for many years. He loved watching the Lions, Tigers and the Wolverines. David had great passion for all of his hobbies which included history; especially the history of Battle Creek. He truly believed in Battle Creek. He also loved and enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his son: Todd R Burnett, CA; sister: Deborah (William) Troskey, a grandson: Justin; a granddaughter: Nicole Burnett; and two great grandchildren: Leilah and Elianah; and one nephew; William D. Troskey.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Monday February 22, 2021 from Noon until 1PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral with Funeral Services to immediately follow.
Cremation will be at the Oak Hill Crematory in Battle Creek, MI., with burial at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial tributes may be made to Battle Creek Masonic Lodge and Binder Park Zoo.
