Joyce Kay (Eaquinta) Hughes
JUNE 20, 1947 – FEBRUARY 17, 2021 (age 73)

Joyce Kay Eaquinta Hughes passed away on February 17, 2021. She is survived by children Stephanie Hughes Livsey (Clark Livsey), Steven Hughes, Douglas Hughes and Jackie Carrington, grand-children Brooks, Spencer, Rhett, Mailee, Olivia, Sage and Carson and sister Diane Clauson. She was preceded in death by her father Carl Eaquinta and mother Verna Parry. Born in Price, Utah on June 20, 1947, Joyce spent her youth in Salt Lake City and Price creating many wonderful memories with her numerous cousins. She graduated from Skyline HS in Salt Lake in 1965 where she was named a Deseret News Sterling Scholar in Business/Clerical. Following high school, she attended BYU where she received her Associates Degree and where she met Brent Hughes with whom she had four children. They later divorced. In 2000 she married Lyndon Saxton. They enjoyed two happy years together before he passed away. A highlight of Mom’s professional life was working as a secretary for President David O. McKay. She later worked for the US Postal Service and finished her career with the Ogden Police Dept. Joyce made lasting friendships wherever she worked and cherished those relationships. Those left behind will miss “going to lunch” and her listening ear in times of trouble. Mom used her quick wit to write memorable poems for her family and friends. She also used her writing skills to publish a monthly newsletter at the Seville Retirement Center in Orem, Utah where she spent her final years. She loved her friends at the Seville and left an impact on them with her infectious personality and charitable ways. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mom loved the Gospel and lived her life to serve others, especially her children and grand-children whom she dearly loved. They were the crown jewels of her life.
