John was born in Hanover on December 10, 1948, and was the son of Naomi (Hoff) and the late John R. McMaster Sr.. He graduated from Spring Grove Area High School Class of 1967, and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. John then worked at the Revonah Spinning Mill, and later at Utz Potato Chip Company for 23 years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church. John loved karaoke, dancing, traveling with his wife, and collecting 50's, 60's, and Pepsi memorabilia. He also enjoyed making birthday posters for everyone in his family and friends. John was a member of the Hanover Legion, AMVETS, Littlestown VFW, Hanover Moose, Republican Club, Hanover and McSherrystown Home Association, Hanover Eagles, Windy Hill Senior Center, and Porters Sidling Fire Co.
"He was quirky, stubborn, sentimental, devoted, and had an uncanny ability to remember dates. I'm sure our special angel is singing again on high, smiling from ear to ear, and embracing the family that was there to greet him. Rest in peace. Your work on earth is done."
In addition to his wife Rebecca, John is survived by his daughter Jessica Grim; his sons Jeffrey, Steven, Joshua, and Jeremy; his 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Naomi; his brothers Brian and Scott; his sisters Kathy and Laura; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father John Sr.; and his sister Linda.
A graveside service in celebration on John's life will be held on Tuesday at 12:00PM at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church Cemetery, 1398 Moulstown Rd, Hanover, PA 17331, with military honors being provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
