William Thompson Montggomery was the third child of Charles Nontgomery and the former Miss Elizabeth Thompson He was born on the 11th of December, 1812, near Little River in Fairview County, South Carolina. His parents were both from prominet families in the area. When William was 18, his family emigrated west to Starkville, Mississippi. Here, he married Louise Glenn on September 21, 1837. Louise and William had nine children
After Louise died in 1859, William married Annie Richardson in 1860 to help raise his children.
When the Civil War broke out William elisted and became the captain of Company E in Col. Robert Perrin's Battalion, also known as Gholson Guard, raised with men from Oktibbeha County. This Battalion in 1865 became the 11th Mississippi Calvary. Four of his sons also enlisted and one, Charles Foster, was killed in the Battle of Franklin (TN.).
After the war, William returned to Starkville and lived there until the mid 1870s, when he and his wife moved to Rutherford, in Gibson County, Tennessee. Here, he and Annie lived out the rest of their days, with William departing this life life on January 26, 1887.
