Donald "Joe" Aggertt, 51, of San Jose died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Born July 24, 1947, in Springfield to Aruthur Donald and Rose Evelyn Ludwig Aggertt, he married Joyce Ann Rients on June 22, 1969, in Flanagan. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, one of Grayville; one of Urbana and one of Cape Girardeau, MO; one brother, Ronald of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Julie Aggertt, on February 11, 1973.

He received a bachelor's degree in vocational agriculture from the Illinois State University in 1969 and a master's degree in agriculture from the University of Illinois in 1973. He became a certified crop adviser in 1996. He taught vocational agriculture and was the Future Farmers of America adviser at Delavan High School from 1969 to 1977. He then farmed in the San Jose area since 1977. He was the Illinois Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer of 1983. He was past president of Illinois Leaders in Agriculture. He was a graduate of the Illinois AG Leadership Program. He was a former director of Illinois Soybean Checkoff Board and the Logan County Soil and Water Conservation Board. He was past president of the Sangamon Valley Farm Business Farm Management in Springfield and was a board member of the F.B.F.M. State Association. He was a member of Delavan Rotary, San Jose Park Board, Logan County Farm Bureau, Illinois Corn Growers and Illinois Soybean Association. He was a Prairie Creek Township Trustee. He also was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, where he was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the church council, Brotherhood and Pete's Pairs.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at his church. The Rev. Darby Lawrence officiated. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery.Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral in Lincoln had charge of arrangements.
