Belleville, Illinois - Kai W. Andersen, 89, of Belleville, IL, born Wednesday, November 11, 1931, in Racine, WI, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Kai was the owner and operator of Phillip 66 gas station in Belleville, IL for many years and the founder of Belleville Holzschnitzers Wood Carvers. He was a founding member of the former Hope Church and a member of the St. Clair Lodge #24 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Shrine, Ainad Drum Corp., Moose Lodge # 1221. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Kai was a loving father and grandfather. He loved to camp and fish with his family and spend time with his dogs. He loved to tell stories and play pranks on everyone. He never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverna, nee Louis, Andersen; parents, Aage and Ida, nee Stryger, Andersen; sister, Elise Wall and special lady, Pauline "Rocky" Range.
Surviving are his son, Michael Andersen of Lebanon, IL, daughter, Jean (Tim) LeMunyon of Littleton, CO; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Andersen of Swansea, IL; grandchildren, Amanda (Devyn) Trampe, Victoria LeMunyon and Christina LeMunyon; great grandchildren, Jonathan Coffer and Lillie Trampe; brothers-in-law, Bud Jr. (Nancy) Louis and Jason (Ellen) Louis; sister-in-law, Diane (Polly Warwick) Brown; nephews, Brian (Carolyn) Wall and Ben (Robyn) Wall.

Visitation: Visitation from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, February 22, 2021 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL, with a walk-through of the Drum Corp at 7:00 pm followed by the Masonic Service at 7:30 pm.
Funeral: Funeral services at 11:00 am Tuesday, February, 23, 2021 at Kurrus Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
