Agnes was known as 'Madame Carle' a millinery specialist, in Queen street. She was known as Madame Carle in at least 1907 when she commenced business as a milliner in Wellington House, Queen Street, opposite Pinhey's Stables.
In 1915 she announced that she was opening, on 20 Sep 1915, under the management of Miss Gillispie, a high-class dressmaking department. Ladies would be able to select from patterns of the newest and daintiest costume cloths and dress fabrics.
In 1923 she vacated her premises at 35 Queen St., next to Nicol, the Jewellers.
In 1925 she moved again, to the Central Garage buildings, Queen Street. In 1930 Mr Ben Roberts of Parkvale, used her vacated building to sell his Wairarapa-grown tomatoes. That year she was renovating and remodeling furs at home.
