Mr. King was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1978. He then worked for the state for eight years and also was a bus driver for New Berlin Community Unit School District 16 for more than 15 years. He was a member of United Baptist Church of New Berlin, Masonic Lodge 450 AF&AM and Ansar Shrine. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He was a founding member of the Volunteers of Memorial Medical Center.
Survivors: wife, Nancy; two sons, Thomas R. King of Springfield and Dale E. King of Kincaid; two grandchildren; a brother, Russell King of Springfield; two sisters, Mary Kathryn Bourland of Springfield and Helen Wilcox of New Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.
