Section: Obituaries

Albert J Burke, 90, of Bellingham, WA, quietly passed away on February 10, 2021 with his wife, Christine, at his bedside.

Al was born June 12, 1930, in Los Angeles, California. He spent his younger years growing up on the docks of San Pedro and his professional career through out California. On December 18, 1977, he married Christine Anderson, in Hemet, California.

Upon graduation from high school, he immediately joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Staff Sergeant for the Global Weather Central during the Korean conflict. His military service had a profoundly positive impact on his life.

Upon completion of his service, he attended Harbor Community College in Long Beach, California. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Arts degrees at Long Beach State in California. He completed his academic education by graduating from the University of Southern California with a Doctorate in Education in 1973.

Al spent the next 30 years of his career serving as a Teacher, Principal, and District Administrator ensuring that the school districts he worked for were financially sound and were able to provide the best education to students in the State of California. He retired in 1989.

Upon entering retirement, Al did not stop helping others. He continued to provide his services and support for those causes he had a passion. After the move to Bellingham in 2003, Al participated in the Volunteer Citizen Patrol with the Bellingham Police Department. In addition, Al was a founding member, and first Vice President, of the local Bellingham Chapter of Mended Hearts - an organization that helps individuals and their families dealing with heart disease to improve quality of life.

He is survived by his wife, daughter and son-in-law, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, and a great-granddaughter.

Al will be interred at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. No services to be held.
