John "Jack" L. Schaffert passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014, at Briody's Health Care Facility. Born April 23, 1915 in Lockport, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen Schaffert. John married Frances Leininger on June 20, 1953. They were married 58 years before Frances predeceased him on October 20, 2011.. John served in the U.S. Army 1942-1945 in World War II. John fought in Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He worked at Harrison Radiator where he met his wife, Frances. John and Frances owned and operated Gray's Grill from 1950-1972 on Main Street in Lockport. They then owned and operated "Schaffert's" until their retirement in 1981. John was a life member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. and Lockport BPO Elks #41. John was happy in life and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and attending their events. One of his favorite things to do was watching Notre Dame and Buffalo Bills football. He and Frances spent many days together taking long rides in their convertible. John was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church.. John is survived by his children, Arlene (Stephen) Wallace and Michael (Mary) Schaffert, all of Lockport; grandchildren, Krystal Bowden of New York City, Mark Wallace, Lockport, NY, Ashley (Chuck) Schaffert of Boston, MA, and Taylor Schaffert of Lockport. Also survived by sister, Margaret ''Nan'' (late Charles) Shaw. Predeceased by sisters, Helen "Honey" Doyle, Blanche McArthur and Kathryn "Sis" Adams and brothers, Joseph and Frank "Bud" Schaffert.. Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 14, 2014, from 3:00-7:00 PM at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 5 Saxton St., Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
