Ruth Hanson, age 95, of New Hope, MN, formerly of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on February 15, 2021 at the Jones-Harrison Nursing Home, Minneapolis, MN.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Lutheran Church of the Master, 1200 69th Ave N, Brooklyn Center, MN, with Rev. Daniel Haukos and Rev. Eldon Wegscheid officiating. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday at Lutheran Church of the Master in Brooklyn Center.

A future service in honor of Ruth will be planned in Thief River Falls sometime this Spring. More details to follow.

Ruth Alice Ristau Hanson was born April 8, 1925 to Edward and Olive (Wing) Ristau in Thief River Falls, Mn. She was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Lutheran Church in Mavie, MN.

She attended District School #76 through the 7th grade and attended 8th grade through High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1942.

After graduating, Ruth worked one year as secretary at the Extension Service, TRF, then moved to New Brighton MN. and worked as a clerk typist at the Defense Plant for 3-1/2 years.

In 1947 Ruth was united in marriage to Lowell Hanson at Mavie. They lived in Spokane, Washington for 4 years. They and their 2 sons moved back to Minnesota and purchased the Ristau family farm and farmed until 1981. During the “farming years”, Ruth worked at the ASCS office as a Program Clerk for 15 years.

In 1989, Ruth and Lowell retired to TRF and became members of Trinity Lutheran church. Ruth was active in 4-H, a Sunday School teacher, member of the Ladies Aid in Germantown and Silver Creek churches, a circle member and a member of the “owls” at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Silver Creek Learning Circle.

Ruth and Lowell enjoyed fishing, especially when the grandchildren went with. She looked forward to family reunions with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Bruce (Linda) Hanson, Monticello, MN., Dave (Jeanne) Hanson, Oakdale, MN., 2 daughters, Marlene Langenberger, New Hope, MN. And Valerie (Dave) Bohmer, Brooten, MN.; 8 grandchildren, Timothy, Daniel, Alicia, Robert, Heather, Kristina, Kimberly, and Angela; 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Glory(Pete) Dalton, Boston, MA. Gaya Elston, Spokane WA.

Ruth’s family will remember her for generations to come. She was a master “story teller” and shared many amazing stories of her own personal history. Ruth was loved by all who met her throughout her lifetime. She was strong, kind, funny and an incredible cook.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Lowell, her parents; brothers Ralph, Richard and Howard; son-in-law Daniel Langenberger.
