Jane McDonald was born and raised in Port Arthur. In 1959, after receiving a B.S. in Medical Technology from Lamar University in Beaumont, she helped to establish a pediactrics laboratory at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. She married Malcolm Dwain
McDonald, a student at the University of Texas Medical Branch. In 1961 they moved to
Fort Worth where Dr. McDonald established his practice and they raised their two children.
An active member of South Hills Christian Church, Jane served as elder and president of
the women's group. Other volunteer work included the Mother to Mother Program
(CCDC) where she helped to mentor several women on welfare, Healing Wings at JPSH,
and the Child Study Center.
Jane graduated from Brite Divinity School, TCU and was ordained as a minister in the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1979. She was one of a handful of women
attending Brite and/or serving churches in this area. Jane served as associate minister at
First Christian Church, Fort Worth for 14 years and as transitional senior minister at
Hurst Christian Church, Arlington's St. Andrew Christian Church, Azle Christian
Church, and First Congregational Church (UCC).
She was a member of the Tarrant County Medical Society Alliance, Medical Dames, and
enjoyed gardening, reading and cooking.
Survivors: Husband, Dwain; son and daughter-in-law, Stuart McDonald, M.D. and
Margaret; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl McDonald, M.D., and Kevin Connelly, M.D.;
grandchildren, Malcolm and Sarah Jane McDonald, David and Sam Connelly; sisters,
Nina Senn of Huntsville, Ala., and Carolyn Garner of Dallas; brother-in-law, Bob Senn; and
nieces and nephews.
