Paul Franklin Cook, 75, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014. He was born in Bristol on February 20, 1938, the first of the five sons of the late Mavis Hannum Cook and long-time Bristol funeral director, Paul Cook. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Cook and Danny Cook. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force which he served as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist with the Strategic Air Command. Upon his return to Bristol, he worked as Director for Parks and Recreation of Bristol and was instrumental in the development of Steele Creek Park.

Paul was a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He served as a funeral director and embalmer at the family firm, Paul Cook Funeral Home, until November of 1978. At that time, he embarked upon a career with Professional Service Group and traveled with the company throughout the Southeastern United States prior to his retirement in 2001. Paul was an avid outdoorsman and continued his travels after retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Debbie Williams Cook; two sons, Paul Bradford Cook and his wife Karen of Bristol, Tennessee, and Byron Franklin Cook and his wife Pamela of Athens, Alabama; a daughter, Erin Kistner of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Mike Cook of Bristol, Tennessee, and Steve Cook and his wife Tava of Jonesborough, Tennessee; grandchildren Brooke Bentley, Adam Bentley, Madison Cook, Andrew Cook and Allison Cook; and godson, Jay Anthony Smith, his wife Stephanie and their daughter, Emily.

Paul’s life will be celebrated at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2014, in the Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a favorite charity. Arrangements especially for Mr. Cook have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory.
