Shelia Dawn Wood, affectionately named "Go Go", 59, of Piney River, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Born in Lynchburg, on January 13, 1962, she was a daughter of Patricia Ann Massie Wood and the late Ronald Ray Wood.

Shelia played an active role and was a vital part of her community. She had been a Public Service Dispatcher for Nelson County for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of the Roseland Rescue Squad, teaching CPR and first aid for more than 40 years, as well as the Piney River Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, cleaning chitlins for their annual dinner, and being dubbed the "chicken cooker". Shelia had a love for music and shared her gift freely, often playing piano or organ for churches, weddings, and even funerals. She also served as Director for the Piedmont Baptist Associational Choir.

A true servant of God, Shelia was a faithful and dedicated member of Clifford Baptist Church. She also attended other churches regularly, feeling right at home, no matter the denomination, throughout the surrounding counties.

To know Shelia was to love her. She was an incredible woman of indomitable spirit and strength. She had an unprecedented sense of family and a genuine love for people. Possessing an unapparelled sense of selflessness, and an ability to make you feel like family, her smile, humor, and laugh were infectious beyond measure. Shelia was such a positive influence on all the lives' she's touched, and has forever impacted those who loved her.

She is survived by her son, Michael Ethan Wood (Brittany) of Piney River; her daughter, Hannah Wood of Charlottesville; two sisters, Susan Thompson (Billy) of Piney River, and Michelle Johnson (Jeff) of Amherst; her special "sister", Connie Sue Campbell; her grandbabies and "angels", Caleb and Caily Burnley, Dakota, Karleigh and Ryleigh Wood, and Elijah and Abigail Mowery; her niece, Kasey Dudley (Josh); her nephew, Jay Johnson; numerous cousins and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Michael Beverly Wood.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Clifford Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald. Friends may pay their respects from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Please note: the family will not be available during that time.
