Walter Brown was born in Frederick Co., VA during the Civil War. His older brother fought in the Confederate Army. Walter came to California in the early 1890's from Nebraska. He married Lydia Comstock in Nebraska and had six children who were raised in CA.

"Walter B. Kerns Is Summond By Death.

Funeral services for Walter Brown Kerns, 72, a former motorman for the Fresno
Traction Company, who died yesterday at his home at 3625 Nevada Avenue, will be
held at 2 P.M. to-morrow at the chapel of J. N. Lisle. Burial will be in Belmont
Memorial Park. He was born in West Virginia and had lived in California for
forty-five years.

He leaves a widow, Mrs. Dora Kerns; four sons, Raymond and Walter Kerns of
Oakland, and Merl and Forest Kerns of Richmond and two daughtgers, Mrs. Margery
Fisher of Los Angeles and Mrs. Grace Hall of Arkansas."
