Garl William Brooks, 75, of rural Huntington, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at his residence.

A lifetime Huntington County resident, he retired from farming in Clear Creek Township in 1989. He was a 1942 graduate of Clear Creek High School.

Mr. Brooks attended Faith Chapel United Methodist Church in Huntington and was a member and Sunday school superintendent for several years at the former Shock Church of the Brethren.

He, along with his wife, Mary, were active with the Forks of Wabash Pioneer Festival since its start 24 years ago. For the last several years they co-chaired the Pioneer Village area. He was a member of the Indiana Hoosier Bells in Indianapolis and the Ageless Iron Club of Roanoke.

Mr. Brooks was born in Huntington County July 21, 1924 to Theodore and Catherine Rupley Brooks. His marriage in Markle on Aug. 22, 1954 was to Mary Ethel Taylor, who survives.

Surviving also are a son, Gary of Huntington; three brothers, Denver, Robert and Donald, all of Huntington; two sisters, Mrs. John (Norma) Pohler of Huntington and Geneva Stetzel of North Manchester; and two grandchildren. A son, Carter Allan, and a brother are deceased.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in Shock Cemetery.

Calling times are today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary at Huntington and at the church Tuesday from 1 p.m. until time for services.
