Barbara June Leonard, 97, of Douds, IA passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Keosauqua Care Center. As were her wishes her body has been cremated. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Selma Church Hall. Burial will be held at a later date in the Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Rantoul, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Karen Clark for a memorial to be placed in the Douds Community in Barbara’s honor.

Barbara June Leonard was born on October 23, 1923 in Albia, IA to James F. and Effie Adams Hammond. She graduated from Moravia High School and moved to Elgin, IL with her older brother Earl where she attended business college in Elgin. She was united in marriage to Cyril Leonard and the two enjoyed life together until his passing in April of 1980. Following Cyril’s death, Barbara moved to Douds, IA. She became active in the community as a member of the St. Aloysius Church in Eldon, IA and as a charter member of the Douds GK T.T.T where she held several offices. Barbara loved to travel and took trips to England, Ireland, Germany, Scotland, France, New Zealand, and Canada. She was an avid card player and played with several different groups.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cyril Leonard; an infant daughter, Shelia Carol Van Meter; three sisters, Mildred Lagerstorm, Donna Carlson, and Carol Janice Hammond; one brother, Cleo (Sonny) Hammond and two half-brothers, Clarence and Earl.

Barbara is survived by many nieces and nephews along with great and great great nieces and nephews. Barbara made her home for the last 40 years beside her family Karen (Robert) Lagerstrom Clark, Theresa (Mike) Clark Dunkin, and Jennifer (Brandon) Clark Bayley. She cherished the time spent with their children, Brooke, Brad, Brock, and Brady Dunkin, and Sloane and Quincy Bayley.
