Delores A. Hazen, 84, died peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021, at Eagle Estates in Independence, Kansas. Her family was by her side.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Christ Church in Neodesha, KS. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at the Yates Center Cemetery on a later date.

Delores was born in Coffey County, Kansas to James L. and Ethel (Barrett) Strawn on September 26, 1936.

She married Howard “Nip” G. Rhodes. They had two sons. He passed in March of 1958. In 1972, she married Leon Hazen. He passed in October of 1987.

Delores worked several jobs throughout her life. She was in sales and worked for a time at Cessna, but what she enjoyed the most was working as an Activity Director and CNA at the nursing homes in Chanute and Neodesha, KS. She did this until her retirement.

Always a busy lady, Delores spent much of her time working in her yard, planting flowers, sewing, crocheting, playing the piano, going to the flea market and re-purposing whatever she could and baking. She enjoyed passing out cookies to the neighbors, the City Workers, or anyone else who had helped her out in any way. She loved spending time with her family and friends the most.

Delores leaves behind her sons: Wayne (Sharon) Rhodes and Randall “Rocky” Rhodes of Neodesha, KS; grandson, Richard “Rusty” (Shannon) Rhodes of Foraker, OK; granddaughter, Trish (Curtis) Gentry-Williams of Neodesha, KS; great granddaughters, Kaylee Rhodes of Cedar Vale, KS, Jaicey Gillum of Independence, KS, and Megan Sedlacek of Augusta, KS; great-great grandchildren: Emree, Reese, Landon, and two more on the way. She is also missed by her beloved fur-baby, Benji.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James D. Strawn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent on her behalf to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Coffeyville, KS; AWOL in Independence, KS; or Fredonia Pound Pals in Fredonia, KS.
