ROYAL CENTER — Services for Mary M. Backus, 87, of Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport, formerly of Lucerne, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home. Mrs. Backus died at 3:55 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 1997, in Miller's Merry Manor. Born Oct. 4, 1909, in Harrison Township, she was the daughter of Ora O. and Minnie Reed Burton. On Dec. 29, 1928, she was married in Lucerne to Clarence R. Backus, who died July 6, 1979. Mrs. Backus was a retired manager of Gourmet Cafeteria, Logansport, and a retired avid Avon representative. She also had been a cook at Lucerne High School. She was a member of Lucerne Christian Church. She liked to play euchre and bingo.

Surviving are one sister, Nola Douglass, Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters preceded in death.

The Rev. Stuart Rose will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Indian Creek Christian Cemetery, Lucerne. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lucerne Christian Church.
