ROYAL CENTER - Clarence R. Backus, 70, Lucerne, died at 11:55 p.m. Friday at Memorial Hospital in Logansport. Born May 24, 1909 in Harrison Township, Cass County, he was the son of John R. and Mary Jane Sommers Backus. He was married to Mary M. Burton in 1928 and she survives. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Lucerne Christian Church.
Also surviving is one sister; O.W Summers, Indianapolis. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Metzger Funeral Home in Royal Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Gene Sellers will officiate and burial will be at the Indian Creek Christian Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cancer Society.
