Denny A. Schutte, 53, of Sedalia, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Center
He was born July 17, 1954, in Cincinnati,Ohio, a son of Clifford and Mildred Jordan Schutte. On Nov. 6, 1982, in Sedalia, he was married to Nancy A. Merrick, who survives of the home.
He grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from Colrain High School. He graduated from Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science and the Medico-Legal Death Investigator School at the St. Louis College of Medicine. He was a manager, director and embalmer at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home.
He was formerly a uniformed patrol officer and detective at the Sedalia Police Department; chief deputy, reserve deputy sheriff and investigator at the Pettis County Sheriff's Department; P.O.S.T. certified law officer; investigator with the Rural Missouri Major Case Squad; and mass fatality coordinator with Pettis County Emergency Management Agency.
He received training at the Drug Enforcement Administration's Narcotics and Dangerous Drug School, Missouri State Highway Patrol Basic Law Enforcement Academy and Photography School and Pettis County Narcotics Unit.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Sedalia Moose Lodge 1494, American Legion and Granite Lodge 272. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked hunting and fishing. He enjoyed passing on his vast knowledge of the outdoors to his family and friends.
Also surviving are his mother, of Cincinnati; three sons, Aaron Merrick, and his wife, Shannen, of Overland Park, Kan., Jordan Schutte and Joshua Schutte, both of the home; two sisters, Connie Terbrueggen, of Fairfield Township, Ohio, and Karen Schweinfest, of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren, Caden, Cohen, Camren Merrick and Bregan Schutte.
He was predeceased by his father.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. October 17th at First Baptist Church, with Drs. Drew Hill and Donald J. Allcorn officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Carr, Tommy Sprinkle, Russell Dedrick, Richard Dedrick, Mike Simons and Lloyd Simons III. Honorary pallbearers were Rene Dedrick, Wray Stilfield, Lloyd Simons, Gary Starke, Bill Garrett, Steve Hall, Dr. Herbert Hall, Buck Venable, Warren Preuitt, Keith Buescher and Larry Johns. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591. Visitation was on Wednesday at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home, where the family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
The family suggested memorial contributions to a scholarship fund for his grandchildren, in care of the funeral home.
