James Kenneth “Big Jim” Smiley, age 76, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Bristol Hospice House in Bristol, TN. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving the 86th Engineer Battalion- Combat Construction Specialist in Vietnam. Jim was a life member of V.F.W. post 9675, member of American Legion Post 145, and retired from Combined Insurance (Aon Corporation) after 35 years. He loved watching his grandchildren playing volleyball, soccer and basketball. Jim also loved playing Texas Holdem, and was a member of the Tennessee Poker Tour. Jim was an Avid fisherman and his favorite place was South Holston Lake, at their lake Boat House.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Cleva and brother, Joe.
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Babs; sons Kenneth and wife Amanda of Bristol, Grant and wife Melanie of Abingdon, and Christopher of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Abigail, Taylor, Cole, Colton and Camden; sister, Barbara Jean Smiley of Manakin Sabot, VA.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Stateline Grill, 644 State Street, Bristol, TN, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Everyone is asked to please follow the COVIF19 guidelines.
