Jerry Wayne Holland
October 08, 1934 - February 12, 2021

U.S. Veteran

Jerry Wayne Holland, age 86, walked into the arms of Jesus on February 12, 2021 at his granddaughter’s home in Sikeston, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in East Prairie, Missouri the second child of a set of fraternal twins to Carl Berry and Birdie (Holland) Gibbear, on October 8, 1934. At a very early age, he developed a strong work ethic, which would serve him well in the various jobs he held. He worked at Del Farms, Knight’s Department Store, Barkett’s Grocery, McKinnie’s Grocery, Charles Todd/Aramark Uniform Company, and most recently he worked part-time as a bread deliverer for Lewis Bros. Co. Along with working hard in the community, he enjoyed doing little projects at home, growing a vegetable garden, fishing, and hunting with his nephews. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his family and friends and church family at Bement Baptist Church, where he came to know Christ as his Savior, served as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and deacon. He served at the Mississippi County Prison doing biblical ministry for nineteen years and was a Gideon for over ten years. In addition to working diligently for his community, he worked just as hard for his country as a Platoon Sergeant in the Army National Guard with the 1140th Engineer Battalion for 31 yrs.

Yet, the greatest jobs he held were as a loving, devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted father to his only child Cynthia Floyd (East Prairie, Mo), loving grandfather to his granddaughters Heather (Chip) Schroeder of Evansville, IN, Brittni Cutlip of New Madrid, MO, and Ashli (Todd) Jenkins of Sikeston, MO, and special great-grandfather to Megan Sutton, Lauren Wurdeman, Madyson Walker, Brianna Hillyard, Katelyn Schroeder, Madelyn Schroeder, and Allyson Schroeder, and an amazing great-great grandfather to Kendalyn Sutton, Emersyn Sutton, Jax Sutton, John Ellis Childers, and Teagan Sutton.

At the young age of 18, he met the love of his life, Betty Sue (Harper) Holland of Bement, Missouri, who quickly became his wife two years later and they made their home in Charleston, Missouri, then later moved to their current residence in Bertrand, Missouri. One year later, they were blessed with their daughter who is the apple of their eye, Cynthia Kay (Holland) Floyd.

Jerry loved all he knew dearly and never met a stranger. If you were a stranger that quickly changed and he became your friend. He left the legacy for his family and friends of a loving, caring Godly man who would do anything to help anyone else. He loved the Lord with all his heart and showed that in the servant like way he lived his life. He lived life to the fullest with joy and laughter. Being the jokester, he was many people were blessed to see this side of him often. Whether it was through a funny note, poem, or gag gift, eventually his friends and family caught on to his sneaky, humorous ways.

Jerry leaves behind his wife, Betty Holland, his daughter, Cynthia Floyd, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and numerous sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews and a host of many friends and acquaintances.

He was preceded in death by his mother, step-grandfather, two sets of grandparents, two sisters, and one niece.

Arrangements are pending at McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Interment with military honors will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.
