Florence was the daughter of John R Atkinson and Louisa A Garland. She was a school teacher.

Feb 1928 - Carroll Times - Miss Florence Atkinson died at the St. Anthony hospital in Carroll, Tuesday evening, February 14, at 9:30 o'clock from an attack of heart trouble. She had not been well for some time and for the last two weeks had been ailing to such an extent that she remained in bed most of the time. Her death last evening, however, was very unexpected and came as a distinct shock to the family and friends. She was taken to the hospital a few hours before her death.

Florence Atkinson was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. John R. Atkinson, and was born in Lafayette, Ind. July 18, 1861. As a young girl she came to Carroll with her parents, and her home has since been in this city. Following the completion of her school studies she taught school for 17 years, most of the time in Iowa. She was a very devout Christian and was a member of the Methodist church in this city. Until her health forbade, she was active in every branch of the church work. She loved literature and the better things of life and was refined and cultured. As a friend she was very true and enjoyed the companionship of many close friends.

Her mother died in 1913 and the death of her father followed the next year.

Surviving are two brothers, Will Atkinson, of this city, and John Atkinson of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by two sisters at home, Misses Kate and Nellie Atkinson. Another sister, Mrs. A.W. Gates, resides at Lewiston, Mont. No definite arrangements had been made for the funeral this morning, pending word from the sister in Montana. The brother in Arizona will be unable to attend.
