David spent his early childhood in Portsmouth, Virginia, Scotland Neck, North Carolina, and later relocated to Delaware, where he received his early education at the Benjamin Banneker Elementary School, located in Milford, Delaware. He also attended the William C. Jason Comprehensive High School and completed his senior high years at William W.M. Henry Comprehensive High School, in Dover, Delaware, in June of 1962.
After graduation, David moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he enlisted into the armed services in 1965. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army's Fifth Corps, Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRPs), company D, stationed at Gibbs Kaserne, in Frankfurt Germany. Upon his discharge in 1967, David returned to Baltimore, and was later employed by the Davison Chemical Corporation. He later found his place with the Howard County School District in Columbia, Maryland where he remained until his retirement in July, 2008.
David had a great love for music. He amassed a large collection of music from the 60's and 70's. He was also an accomplished singer, who knew how to harmonize and would often get a group together to sing at various venues. David could recall in precise detail many "Oldies but Goodies" groups with their labels, their members, and their songs. He was a fun loving, friendly, "laid back" kind of guy and always a joy to be around. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, David II; longtime friend, Frances Adams; three siblings: sisters, Helen Stuart and Jeanese Ward and brother, Clarence Hendricks.
David leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, Louis Hendricks (Joan) of Philadelphia, PA, Bishop Marion L. Hendricks (Pearl) of Georgetown, DE, Elroy Hendricks (Vivian) of Dover, DE, and Victor Hendricks (Penny) of Harrington, DE; two sisters, Lula Hendricks of Philadelphia, PA and Denise Nichols (Terrence) of Frederica, DE; sister-in-law, Janet Hendricks of Harrington, DE; and a host of aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
