Mr. Daniel Peter "Pete" Nelson, age 80, of Hilo, Hawaii, died March 30, 2020 in the Hawaii Care Choice Pohai Malama Facility in Hilo, Hawaii. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii on April 24, 1939 and retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Education as a Special Education (SPED) Teacher at Hilo High School. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and a United States Navy veteran.

A memorial mass will be held on February 19, 2021 (Friday) at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (43 Kapiolani Street) in Hilo, Hawaii. Inurnment will follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 in Hilo, Hawaii. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by son, Dane Nelson of Hilo; daughter, Candice (Nathan) Haga of Irvine, California; sisters, Barbara (Melvin) Soong of Kailua, Oahu and Carolyn Kouchi of Kauai; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
