"LORENE MARIE JOHNSON Passed peacefully into Heaven on August 26, 2018. She was 93 years old. Lorene McGinnis was born on a farm in Choctaw, Oklahoma on March 27, 1925. Though she lost her mother at a very young age (and complained often about picking vegetables in the hot sun!), she had many fond memories of her childhood years. After graduating from high school, she attended college for one year at Oklahoma A&M. Her first job after college was at Nabisco. She then held various bookkeeping positions, and was particularly proud of working at the Oklahoma State capitol. On August 28, 1953, Lorene married Alvin Johnson and moved with him to Eureka, California. She loved the mild weather and beauty of the North Coast, and never desired to leave. It was there they raised their four children. Lorene was a dedicated wife and mother, and we're amazed at her ability to accomplish so much. She was intelligent, talented and ambitious, and enjoyed using her time and abilities to benefit others. Her interests included reading, sewing, church and family activities. She kept herself and her family well dressed with creations from her sewing room and delighted family and friends throughout her life with beautiful handmade wedding and holiday dresses, Christmas pajamas, costumes and doll clothes. There was an array of candy and baked goods at Christmas, and special cakes (especially German Chocolate!) for birthdays. Together Al and Lorene operated "Al Johnson's Chevron" from 1962 until 1985. Lorene served as bookkeeper and general business partner, and Al lovingly referred to her as "Boss". After retirement they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and did some traveling before Al's passing in 1998. Lorene cherished the lifelong friendships formed through her family's attendance at Pine Hill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School as well as fulfilling numerous other responsibilities. She also enjoyed attending Ridgewood Heights Baptist in her later years. She could be found reading her Bible every morning, and continued to draw her strength from God until her final days. Lorene lived the last several years of her life with her youngest daughter Lela and family, who count it a privilege to have cared for her these many years. She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, her son Alan, brother Eugene McGinnis, sister Mary Ann Johnson..."
