WALLINGFORD - Thelma E. Miller, 97, beloved wife of the late Chester I. Miller, departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Masonic Healthcare Center. Thelma was born in Boston, Mass., Oct. 15, 1911, daughter of the late Samuel Herman and Florence (Dow) Sawyer. Until her retirement she was a clerical worker at Ulbrich Stainless Steel Company. She was a member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church, was a past matron of Atlantic Chapter No. 179 O.E.S. in Quincy, Mass., a member of Meridian Chapter No. 8 O.E.S. in Meriden, and a former member of the Rebecca's. Thelma volunteered countless hours at the Wallingford Senior Center, Meriden Wallingford Hospital, and the Masonic Healthcare Center. She is survived by two sons, Chester A. Miller and his wife, Grace of Wallingford, and James I. Miller and his wife, Jenn of Lady Lake, Fla.; a sister, Norma Louise Bothfeld and her husband, Charles of Cabot, Vt.; three grandchildren, David and Paula Miller, both of Wallingford, and Dr. Karin Alcantara of Georgia; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Abby, Konnor, and Emily. She is preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle Lawson. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, March 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. A funeral services will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be private.
