Edna Mae Jones, 85 years old Checotah resident, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on Wednesday, August 28, 1935 to George Edward and Maggie “Toupan” Lowe in Bower, Oklahoma. Edna grew up in Bower and attended Bower Schools until the family moved to Bixby, OK. Edna met David Jones and they were united in marriage on May 28, 1977 in Bixby, Oklahoma. They moved Southeast of Checotah in 2004. Edna was a diligent housewife and mother. She loved taking care of and playing with her grandchildren. She especially loved spoiling them and was very good at it. She loved to shop and find those special deals. She enjoyed old Gospel music. The favorite thing she loved to do was make scratchers. If you don’t know what a scratcher is, you will just have to ask someone in the family. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Danny Shatswell, Bruce Henry Shatswell, and Eddie Ray Shatswell. She is lovingly survived by her husband David of Checotah; Daughters, Kathy Brown of Muskogee, Ok, Judy May Shatswell of Bixby, OK, Brenda Kay Gilman and husband Scott of Broken Arrow, OK, Shiree Jones of Checotah, OK, Charlene Jolley of Houston, TX, and Peggy Turner of California; her grandchildren, Angela Emerson and Anthony Emerson, Kelly Sasser and Jake Sasser, Christine Simpson, Jeremy Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Jesse Hamilton, David Jolley, Beth Jolley, Anthony Young, Grace Turner, Brenda Shatswell, and Matthew Shatwell as well as 20+ great grandchildren. Edna is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
