Mrs. Patricia A. Hoffman of Pennington, NJ passed from this life on February 9, 2021 after an extensive and debilitating battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Pat was born to Dominic R. Belcastro and Ruth G. Russell Belcastro in Wilmington, Delaware on March 17, 1937. The family moved to Virginia when she was 8 years old. She graduated as salutatorian from St. Vincent’s Catholic High School, and majored in mathematics at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. After completing
two years of college, Pat left school to marry the love of her life, Bernard L. Hoffman, Jr., whom she had met at a wedding in Trenton, New Jersey. Pat worked to support herself and her husband while Bernard attended dental school in Teaneck, NJ. After graduating from dental school, the couple settled in Ewing Township, NJ. Bernard established his own dental practice in Ewing, and later in Pennington, NJ where they re-located after completely renovating an 18th Century farm house.
Pat worked with Bernard in establishing the dental practice, becoming certified as a dental assistant and serving as the office manager. She was also a dedicated mother and home-maker. Her first child, Mary, lived only twelve hours, but was followed by her daughter, Jennifer Sheridan Hoffman, and her son, Bernard L. Hoffman III. She was a loyal family member and friend, maintaining a number of friendships throughout her adult life. She could also be counted on to hold confidences entrusted to her.
In her younger adult years, Pat loved to play tennis and played doubles matches regularly and competitively through a women’s tennis league. In her later years, she remained a devotee of tennis by following professional tennis on television and attending several U.S. Open matches in New York. Throughout her life Pat loved history and antiques, applying this interest to renovating and decorating their home in Pennington, which was originally built in the 1700’s.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jennifer Cino, her husband, Mr. James Cino, and their children, James Peter and Sophia Marie, all of Shamong, NJ, her son, Dr. Bernard L. Hoffman III, and his wife, Dr. Ana Paula Hoffman, and their children Bernard IV and Maria, all of Pennington, NJ, as well as two sisters, Ms. Ruth G. Belcastro and Dr. Christine M. Belcastro, both of Virginia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed by her many family members and friends.
A private service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, followed by an interment at Ewing Cemetery.
