Deputy Sheriff Ross Dixon died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in a presumed exposure while on duty at the Cambria County Courthouse.
Deputy Dixon had served with the Cambria County Sheriff's Office for 35 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Of Ebensburg, passed away February 9, 2021 after a courageous battle with Covid -19. Born October 19, 1952 in Spangler, son of the late Ross J. and Virginia (Stephens) Dixon. Preceeded in death sisters Constance M. "Connie" Erickson, and Marlene (Teeter) Krens, and nephews Jared Stiles and Austin Hott. Survived by wife, the former Kathy Pileski, to whom he shared 18 years together; and children: Ross W. II (Nicole) Dixon, Altoona; Jaime (Dustin) Swope, Johnstown; Rachel (Chris) Geddis, Portland, OR and Danielle (Matt) Brazil, Summerhill; six grandchildren: Olivia, Alexander, Tylor, Braydon, Charlie Rae, and August. Also survived by sisters: Peggy (George) Stiles, Terri Boback, step-sister Danielle (Jeff) Seese, all of Ebensburg; step-mother Judie Boring, Seward; aunt, Pat (Ron) Gild, Henderson, NV, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ross was a deputy sheriff for the Cambria County Sheriff's Office and had previously worked security for the former Laurel Bank, Ebensburg as well as serving as a part-time police officer for Ebensburg Borough. Active in his community, Ross had taught Karate lessons and coached baseball and track over the years. He enjoyed working on his home, motorcycles, cars, traveling and especially spending time with Kathy. Throughout his career, he policed as his father did, with "unconditional kindness".
