Kathryn “Kacky” McKenzie, 70, of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021.
She was born January 16, 1951 to Wilbur Carl “Dub” and Margaret Blohm Cearley.
Kacky was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff
High School in 1969. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from UAPB and later
earned her Master’s in Education from UALR.
She had a passion for helping people in difficult circumstances. She taught at the Adult
Education center, Neighbor to Neighbor and CASA Women’s shelter. In 1998 she
received the Walmart Teacher of the Year Award.
Kacky was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church where she had taught a Sunday School
class, worked with Vacation Bible School and had been a member of the Esther Guild Mission
Society and served on the Board of Education. Before her children were born, she took an avid
interest in her nieces and nephews. Once her children were born, she was delighted in caring for
them, as well as her grandchildren. Several times, while shopping with her sister, she would
wander off. However, she could always be found in the toy aisle looking for gifts for Jett and Bella. Kacky was very generous and loving to anyone she met, she will be missed by many.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Van Cearley.
Survivors include her loving husband of forty-three years, Charles Michael “Mike” McKenzie;
sons, Jeremy (Kenita) McKenzie of White Hall and Jason (Chelsea) McKenzie of Bella Vista;
brother, Wilbur Cearley of Sherwood; sisters, Evelyn Kientz of Montgomery, Alabama, Cherrie
Bradley of Pine Bluff; and grandchildren, Jett and Bella McKenzie.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 12:30 P.M. in the Chapel of Ralph
Robinson and Son with funeral service following at 1:30 P.M. Due to the weather, burial will be private. All current covid-19 guidelines will be in effect.
