Even at Best Nazi Prison No Snap for Air Veteran- Sgt. Clarence A. Liddick, the son of Mrs. Gerald Theurer of Casey and Clarence D. Liddick, 15 Washington Avenue, who was reported missing over Germany but was taken prisoner on Mar 8, 1944 while on his sixth mission over Germany, has returned home on 60 day furlough.
While over the target, Berlin, a German fighter got on their tail and kept pumping 20mm shells into the plane. The inner phones and oxygen tanks were knocked out, the bomb loads were on fire and the nose of the plane and the pilot’s compartment were burning. With communications out of commission orders could no longer be given, but ‘each kid knew he must get out and fast,’ said the sergeant. The unconscious gunner was pushed from the plane and the others bailed out under their own power. As luck would have it, Sgt. Liddick landed in a plowed field just outside of town where he was picked up by German civilians and taken to German authorities.

He married Dixie V. Titus on 23 Dec 1948
