Magdalena sailed on the Swanton out of Le Havre, France. She arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on Jan. 24, 1846. The ship's record lists Magdalena, then one other person, then Gervas Bachmann, whom Magdalena was to marry later in the year. As of this writing, we don't know if they knew each other in Baden or if they met on the ship coming to the USA.
Magdalena Wiederle married Gervas Bachmann on Nov. 23, 1846 in Hamilton County, Ohio.
The couple's first child, Rosina, was born on December 21, 1847 in Delhi, Ohio. Their only son, George, was born in there as well on Jan. 15, 1849. Daughter Mary M. was born July 26, 1851 in Delhi. Anna Elizabeth was born in Oldenburg, Indiana, on July 27, 1856. Their youngest child, a daughter named Magdalena, was born on October 4, 1861, also in Oldenburg.
On December 1, 1853, a deed was recorded in Franklin County, Indiana for the purchase of 40 acres of land. The buyer was Magdalena's husband, Gervas.
Thereafter, Magdalena and Gervas made their home in Salt Creek Township, Franklin County, Indiana.
Magdalena died in Oldenburg, Indiana on September 27, 1894. She was buried in Holy Family Cemetery in Oldenburg. I have been told that the plot numbers are unavailable at this time.
