Juanita Lauris Witt Kelly, 91, passed away October 16, 2007 at her home. She was born May 18, 1916 in Noddle, Texas to Walter Clay Witt and Lespie Herring Witt.

In 1924 she moved with her family to South Texas. After short stays in Robstown and Kingsville the family settled in Bishop in 1926. Juanita attended schools in Bishop and graduated from Texas College of Arts and Industries in 1939. The Herrings and Witts were in the cotton gin business in several South Texas locations. She spent her high school and college summers keeping books at an uncle's gin.

She married Harlan Kelly October 1, 1939 and moved to Agua Dulce. They began a farm life together that was to last sixty years, raising two children and being involved in church and community. She spent the early years as a schoolteacher at Agua Dulce ISD and was a dedicated member of the Agua Dulce Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities including many years as church secretary. She was a lifetime member of the Agua Dulce Parent Teacher Association and was a member of the Alpha Study Club since 1942. Harlan died in 2000 and she continued to live on the family farm until her death.

Before her health declined she looked foward to daily lunch with friends at the Agua Dulce Senior Community Center. In the fall she spent Saturday nights by the radio listening to her beloved "Javelinas".

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Cecil Clay Witt and Alvin Lawrence Witt and husband, Harlan Kelly.

She is survived by a son, Carroll and wife, Linda of Agua Dulce, Texas and a daughter, Nita Peck and husband, Michael of George West, Texas. Also, grandchildren; Vickie (Bryan) Haynie of Liberty Hill, Texas, Joy (Jessie) Brown of Agua Dulce, Texas and Cody and Kyle Peck of George West, Texas Also surviving are great grandchildren; Taylor and Sarah Haynie, and Audrey Brown and numerous nieces and nephews. Special Honor is extended to her many friends at the Agua Dulce Senior Community Center.

Visitation was held at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice on Oct. 17. Funeral services were conducted at Agua Dulce Baptist Church on Oct. 18. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery, Bishop, TX.
