Kay Russell

RANTOUL, Kan. — Kay (Nichols) Russell, age 68, of rural Rantoul, died Sunday, March 27, 2005.


Kay was born July 7, 1936, in Denver, Colo., the fourth child of Clyde Curtis and Elizabeth Hope (Converse) Nichols. She attended Wellsville, Kan., schools, graduating from Wellsville High School in 1954. She received an associate of arts degree from Johnson County Community College in 1977.


Kay was married to Carl Eugene Russell in 1955 at Wellsville. They were divorced in 1959.


She is survived by her three daughters: Carla Roxanne Russell, Shawnee, Kan.; Kathy Beth Tracy, St. Joseph, Mo.; and Judith Kay Lewis, Rantoul, Kan.; three grandchildren: Angela Michelle McLeod, Olathe, Kan.; Bradley Neil Starling, Colorado City, Colo.; and Shannon Lee Kearney, Shawnee, Kan.; and six great-grandchildren: Michayla Marie, Jaydi Elizabeth and Blayse Alexandra Starling, William Bradley Jackson, Megan Leaigh and Katen Michelle McLeod. Also surviving are one sister, Carolyn May Layton, Wellsville, Kan.; and one brother, Sherman Duane Nichols, Taos, N.M.


She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Riley Converse Nichols, in 1976; and a sister, Julia Hope Nichols, in 1996.


By prior arrangements, she donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical School for research purposes. There will be no service. Memorials may be made to the B. Martin Peck Animal Shelter of Franklin County, Kan., in care of Wilson and Son Funeral Home, P.O. Box 486, Wellsville, Kan., 66092.

Kay wishes to be donated to Medical Science at The University of Kansas School of Medicine.
